Plastic vs. Metal Razor Scraper Blades: Which Should You Use?
Choose a scraper blade based on the surface, residue and risk of scratching.
Plastic and metal scraper blades may fit the same handle, but they are not interchangeable for every surface. Plastic blades are usually the safer first test on delicate finishes. Metal blades can remove stubborn residue faster but may scratch or gouge the surface.
Use a test-first process
Clean loose grit away, choose an inconspicuous area and hold the scraper at a shallow angle. Apply light, even pressure. Stop immediately if the blade catches or marks the finish.
Replace worn blades
A damaged edge can require more force and leave uneven marks. Store spare blades dry, cover sharp edges and dispose of used metal blades in a rigid container.
